We headed for Lake Cuicocha which was less than an hour away. Got to the entrance and had to fill out papers including our occupation and passport number. This was a park. Didn’t have my passport with me and Gaspar whispered ‘make one up’. I don’t think it had enough digits in it.
The lake was stunning. It is a dormant volcano full of water. We walked up and along a ridge. Met a 30-something French woman travelling on her own in Ecuador and other places for a couple of months. Some people can just do that.
This is a place Rachel would love. The max altitude is less than 12k feet which she could do with some training and gentle acclimatization. Beautiful path, flowers, views, and an occasional bench to sit on.
