We left Hacienda Pinsaqui around 9 for Pablo’s place. Pablo is a friend of Ossy’s who has a large house in the town of Cayambe. We’ll be staying there in between excursions up the mountain to the hut.
We stopped in town at a supermarket for groceries as Gaspar will be cooking for us. Rumiloma provides the basic foods (already put together, with meat and fish frozen) and Gaspar is getting smaller things for lunch and snacks. After looking around the store Brad and I went up the street to see an interesting old church. Definitely bait for Rachel. Gaspar couldn’t find us for awhile even though I’m 6’3″ and wearing a flourescent orange top.
We eventually found each other and drove out of town and up toward the hut. Gaspar explained this part of the country used to have a large dairy industry but the flower industry (especially roses) has taken over and is much more lucrative. They’re grown in large greenhouses made from white plastic. Since on the equator the sun is mostly directly overhead the roses grow straight and there are several seasons per year.
I retired the pair of wool socks I’ve worn every day so far and started a fresh pair. Small pleasures.
