About the only thing I could do for awhile after surgery was spin at the gym. My hand was in a splint and I held it against my chest while I used my right hand to hold onto the handlebar. It was good mental therapy but wasn’t too comfortable. I progressed to cycling on the road in early summer and started hiking again. One memorable experience was seeing the second bear in about an hour’s time while hiking the Appalachian trail with Tara and her kids, who were on a visit to D.C. We backtracked to the car after seeing the first one. We had to get past the second one. It was more interested in eating the berries than in bothering us. We walked right by.
